The Crystal Ball
Within certain fantasy universes, magic schools play host to international students from other areas of the world and, traditionally will throw a grand ball for all the students to attend in a show of magical cooperation. This ball takes place near the winter holiday, or the "Yule" season, and features dinner, music and dancing. The decorations are elaborate and beautiful, the food is extravagant and mouthwatering, and the dancing is whimsical and enticing.
The organizers of this event, members of a fandom organization called hp-ohio, wanted to put on an event in tribute to this fantastic idea: a ball held locally in Ohio where we can invite the general public to share in a night of magical fun and open the doors to future cooperation for Ohio based events. The first Crystal Ball was held December 1st, 2006 and attended by 65 people from all over Ohio and surrounding states, even Seattle Washington! The second ball was held on November 30th, 2007 and upped the entertainment by including a concert by two of the fandom's premier Wizard Rock bands. The third ball was held in January of 2009 amid a bit of a snow storm!
The ball will again be held at Landoll's Mohican Castle’s Event Center. Guests will walk from the castle and follow a meandering woodland path past the fountain and fairy lights until reaching the Event Center. The Event Center is a gorgeous addition to the castle grounds, it has large floor-to-ceiling windows, a cathedral ceiling and dance floor. This beautiful space will be transformed into a place ball attendees can dine, socialize and dance the night away in a world of fantasy with like-minded folk.
Please note that attire is formal – non-magical or wizard. This means gowns, tuxedos, full suits or dress robes inspired by fantasy. Have some fun with your wardrobe! Also remember that the ball is for patrons 18 years and older. IDs will be checked at the entrance and at the cash bar for those purchasing drinks during dinner.
